The Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets continue their standstill with an Aaron Rodgers trade. This lull without much new information coming out opens the door for irrelevant members of the sports media industry to spew nonsense and make headlines. That is exactly what happened with the latest San Francisco 49ers Aaron Rodgers trade rumor.

New Aaron Rodgers 49ers Trade Rumor Has Zero Merit

This Aaron Rodgers 49ers trade rumor was started on The Carton Show. I assume you, like everyone, have not seen or likely have even heard of this show. All you need to know is that it is on FS1. You get it. The host, Craig Carton, also has a radio show.

Carton says the 49ers are “ready to pounce” if the Aaron Rodgers trade to the Jets falls through. This already is a load of nothing, but other networks and social media picked this up to say the 49ers are now interested in trading for Rodgers. There is so much wrong about this.

First off, Carton is using this ridiculous rant, headline and fiction to get clicks and mentions (it worked) while also getting callers for his radio show. This is sports media at its finest to gain relevancy.

Now, for the logistics of the trade itself. Carton mentions how the 49ers have no picks in the first two rounds, but they have multiple third-round picks. Brian Gutekunst needs a high draft pick this season because they need Jordan Love to have some success immediately in order for Gutekunst to keep his job. Also, the Niners would be offering the Packers less to trade Rodgers within the NFC. Smart argument.

Also, are the 49ers going to trade Brock Purdy or Trey Lance to the Packers then? Green Bay would not accept this trade, as a tough start for Love would then lead to the discussion of the Packers turning to the backup quarterback that has more years left on the rookie contract and is possibly much better than Love. This is not the pressure Green Bay wants in the QB room.

In short, who is Craig Carton? If you don’t know, who gives a shit what is coming out of his mouth. If you do know, you already don’t care.
