Let’s Go Wisconsin does a full review of the new Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds. Are these worth your money this Fall?

Exactly one year ago today, I did a full review of Culver’s Hot Honey Cheese Curds. This year, we are back at it again with a new flavor of curd to try — Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds! It is the time of year when many restaurants are releasing new food items, and it is exciting that Wisconsin’s darling is back in the mix once again.

With items like jalapeno or hot honey anything, we know Culver’s has to be a bit careful. The Midwest palate seems to handle spice a bit differently than in other places. “Oh geez, you brought medium salsa? You trying to kill me?!”

So, are the Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds too hot to handle, or has our weather shown us that a little heat in the Fall can be a good thing? Let’s jump into our review of the new, limited-time Culver’s cheese curds!

Review of Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds

First off, it is nice that Culver’s is not upcharging for a limited-time item. These jalapeno cheese curds are the same price as their normal ones, so you won’t be paying anything extra if you typically add some curds to your combo.

These are the Culver’s menu prices for Onalaska, WI.

Medium: $5.09 (500 calories)

Large: $8.79 (1000 calories)

Family: $12.09 (1500 calories)

How’d the Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds Taste?

As soon as I got my bag of food, I could instantly smell the jalapeno! It was similar to ripping open a bag of jalapeno kettle chips, which got me excited. The curds themselves had bits of green in them as well, which does appear perfect for the spooky, Halloween season. As far as the cheese in the curd itself, it is still cheddar cheese, like the original cheese curds you’ve had a million times from Culver’s.

The cheese curds were hot (temperature) and crispy on the outside, so I got the perfect experience for this food review. And I have to say, there was enough spice to make a white, middle-aged Wisconsinite with tears in their eyes say, “Oh geez Louise, there’s a bit of a tingle there, huh?” Of course, we know that means it’s about a 5/10 spice, but it’s about as hot as they can go where everyone is still able to enjoy them.

In my opinion, it was the perfect spice level for these. It was a warm spice, but not hot. And along with it, there was a real jalapeno taste that improves on the original by a lot, in my opinion.

Now, what do we dunk these golden nuggets in? If you are a ranch fiend, that will very clearly work with these, and it can tame that spice for you a bit as well! I decided to go with Culver’s Signature Sauce, which seems to be the perfect complement to these! Honestly, if I had a beer with this as well, it would have been top-notch.

In full transparency, before the final verdict, let’s put all of my cards on the table. While I love cheese curds, I am not the biggest fan of Culver’s cheese curds. However, there is zero doubt that I think these were an improvement on the original. So, whether you are a lover or a hater of the original flavor, are the Culver’s Jalapeno Cheese Curds worth trying?

Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Overall, I would give the new jalapeno cheese curds a 4.5/5 (they’re much better than the original). I’m not lying when I say this is one of the best items I have had from Culver’s. Let’s be honest, the sides they offer are pretty “meh.” But with these, the side is a featured part of the meal!

I don’t think you need to be scared away by the jalapeno. While there is some spice, I think even the most sensitive will be able to enjoy these without being in pain. And let’s be honest, you’re getting some custard to go along with this anyway! If you want something seasonal, Pumpkin shakes are BACK!

As mentioned previously, I enjoyed these more than the normal Culver’s cheese curds. However, I would love to know how these stack up for you as well! Please, share the article if you enjoyed it, and tag us when you try these so I can know if you liked them as much as me!
