It is the season of new food products both in-store and in restaurants alike. This includes fast food restaurants, and the Midwest favorite of Culver’s is jumping in on the action. Not only did Culver’s bring back the CurderBurger, which is a regular ButterBurger with fried cheese in it, but they also released a new kind of cheese curds for a limited time!

Culver’s just released their hot honey cheese curds! Your Midwest palate may be a bit hesitant to try anything labeled “hot.” Luckily, we got our hands on these deep-fried nuggets of gold so you don’t have to (unless they sound too good to pass up).

Let’s jump into our review of the new, limited-time hot honey cheese curds from Culver’s!

Review of Culver’s Hot Honey Cheese Curds

First off, it is nice that Culver’s is not upcharging for a limited-time item. These hot honey cheese curds are the same price as their normal ones, so you won’t be paying anything extra if you typically add some curds to your combo.

These are the Culver’s menu prices for Onalaska, WI.

Medium: $5.09 (500 calories)

Large: $8.79 (1000 calories)

Family: $12.09 (1500 calories)

How’d the Culver’s Hot Honey Cheese Curds Taste?

The first taste that hits you with the Culver’s hot honey cheese curds is the honey. To their credit, it was not just a sweet flavor — it actually tasted like honey. This did, however, dominate the experience. The cheese itself appears to be the same as the original cheddar curds on the menu, so only the breading is changing here.

There was a little bit of spice on the aftertaste, but it was more of a tingle than any sort of burning. Preferably, these would have been a bit spicier, as I am unsure you would get any of the heat if you dipped them in a condiment that didn’t have heat of its own.

And speaking of condiments, what would go best with these? While most people dip regular Culver’s cheese curds in ranch or marinara (and some ketchup), none of these feel like great compliments. Instead, buffalo or BBQ sauce does seem like the best choice, as honey mustard would push this over into a full-blown dessert with sweetness, and not in a great way.

While I love cheese curds, I am not the biggest fan of Culver’s cheese curds. However, I may like these slightly more than the original. So, whether you are a lover or hater of the original flavor, keep this in mind with this Culver’s hot honey cheese curds review.

Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Overall, I would give the new hot honey cheese curds a 3/5 (they are still cheese curds after all). However, there is no doubt this limited-edition item will be polarizing. If the thought of sweet cheese curds disgusts you, then these are likely not for you. Also, may I suggest trying cheese curds and maple syrup (they’re incredible).

Do not be scared away by the word “hot.” They were certainly spiced with the whitest of people in mind.

As I stated above, I may actually like these cheese curds more than the regular ones, but I am not a fan of the normal Culver’s cheese curds. More likely than not, you will not LOVE these, which is why they get the ranking they do. Some will hate them while others, like me, think they are perfectly fine, but not great.

If you want something sweet that is seasonal, get a pumpkin shake from Culver’s instead.
