After finding success with their limited-time-only Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Sandwiches, Culver’s wasted little time in rolling out their next limited-time item. Culver’s newest addition is the Peanut Butter, Bacon and Jam Pub Burger, which is also known as the PBB&J Burger. This item is still undergoing market testing, so it will not be available at the majority of Culver’s stores. With it available close to us, we had to see if it is worth the trip.
Culver’s Food Review: Peanut Butter, Bacon and Jam Pub Burger
In terms of availability, the PBB&J burger is available at least in southeastern Wisconsin at this time. Since the burger is not listed on the online menu and is currently only advertised on the menu board at each physical location, you’ll have to head on down to your local Culver’s to see if it’s available in your area.
Peanut butter has been a popular burger condiment for some time and it is becoming more popular as people get more adventurous with their food. To our knowledge, Culver’s is the first fast-food restaurant to hop on the trend.
For as odd as the burger sounds already, the ingredient list is even more intriguing. The PBB&J Burger comes with their famous Culver’s beef patty, bacon, havarti cheese, peanut butter and cherry preserves on a toasted pretzel bun. While PB&J on a burger isn’t absolutely crazy, I was interested to see how the cherry preserves would work into the equation.
After paying $9.44, including tax, let’s see how this Culver’s limited-time item tastes.
The Verdict: Is the Culver’s PBB&J Burger Good?
Personally, I’d rank the Culver’s PBB&J Burger a 3/5, and I don’t think that’s a knock on this sandwich at all. The havarti cheese pairs surprisingly well with the peanut butter and preserves. The beef patty is always incredible and pretzel buns always hit it out of the park. The only two problems I had with this burger came from the mixture of preserves and peanut butter and the price.
I truly think Culver’s is on to something with the preserves. The only issue was the lack of peanut butter. It made the taste of the preserves stick out even more whereas it would’ve likely blended better if they put more peanut butter on the burger. Also, in some of the bites where there wasn’t a ton of preserves, the peanut butter made the burger taste dry without any additional condiments.
For me, the price was the biggest sticking point. While it was a fun burger to try, the price of $9.44 including tax for one double Culver’s PBB&J burger is a little too pricey for me. For as solid as the sandwich was overall, there are plenty of other items I’d rather have at Culver’s if I’m paying that kind of price.
