Two new Culver’s custard flavors have been announced for this summer: Lemon Berry Layer Cake and Dark Chocolate PB Crunch. Today, we went to try the Lemon Berry Layer Cake, which was today’s Culver’s Flavor of the Day across all of the stores. Keep reading for the full Culver’s food review.

It’s always a good day when we get to do a Culver’s food review here on Let’s Go Wisconsin. And today, it’s all about dessert, with Culver’s announcing two new summer custard flavors. The restaurant began with Lemon Berry Layer Cake today, and it will be a Culver’s Flavor of the Day more throughout the month. July 10th will be the debut of the other new Culver’s custard flavor, which we will try to review here as well!

Unlike some other food reviews here at Let’s Go Wisconsin, we have no need to get into the pricing details. Since Lemon Berry Layer Cake is a Flavor of the Day, it is the same price as chocolate or vanilla custards. It’s all about the taste of this Culver’s custard, so let’s jump right to it!

Culver’s Custard Review: NEW Lemon Berry Layer Cake

The new Culver’s custard Lemon Berry Layer Cake was today’s Flavor of the Day at every store in honor of the flavor’s summer launch. It starts with the regular Culver’s vanilla custard, but it layers in mixed berries, a ribbon of tart and tangy lemon, and butter cake pieces.

First off, the custard does no skimp on the butter cake pieces, so you will be very happy if those are your thing. The layer of mixed berries appears to be strawberry, raspberry and blackberry. It didn’t appear to be actual fruit, but rather a triple berry-like syrup, which was flavorful and had a little fresh tartness. What brought everything together was the tangy lemon ribbon, which was a banger and made it feel like a summer flavor.

The Verdict: How Do We Like Culver’s Lemon Berry Layer Cake Flavor?

I’d rank this new Culver’s custard a 4/5.

What could have made this custard better was substituting the butter cake with cheesecake, as that could have cut through the sweetness a little better. Having actual fruit and more of the lemon ribbon also would have improved the Culver’s Lemon Berry Layer Cake flavor for me, but it is still great regardless. Also, if you’re like me and would prefer more of the tartness, they always have lemon ice items that would suffice.

If you missed out on trying this new Culver’s custard flavor today, no worries! It is going to be featured more times throughout the month of June, so check out the Culver’s Flavor of the Day page to see when it will be at your local location next!
