Is Culver’s Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Pub Burger or Chicken Sandwich better? With a price difference, is one of these choices better while they are available for a limited time? Below, Let’s Go Wisconsin will do a taste test of the Culver’s Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar sandwiches and determine if the Pub Burger or Chicken Sandwich is more worth it at its given price.

Culver’s released its two new Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar sandwiches on April 10th. With lent now over, and those who may have given up beef now able to splurge again, both options bring a twist to an already solid Culver’s menu. Whether you’re looking to get a quick snack after work or have a cheat meal, both options more than do the trick.

The Let’s Go Wisconsin team has taken it upon themselves to solve these pressing questions. Below, I did a Culver’s taste test, putting the pub burger and chicken sandwich against each other. Along with taste, we will be taking price and everything else that adds to the experience into account for our taste tests.

Culver’s Taste Test: Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Pub Burger vs Chicken Sandwich

For full transparency, I went with the single Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Pub Burger. Although the double is the default option, I didn’t want the beef to override the other flavors in the burger. This may be a bold take, but the Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Pub Burger may be the best burger on the menu at Culver’s. The barbeque sauce and cheddar bun went together really well as neither was too overpowering.

I’m not a fan of fried onion rings, but they meshed perfectly with the mayo, pickles and beef. It truly tasted like a burger you would be happy to get at a pub. With the price of the burger alone being much less than that of one you’d get at a pub or a sit-down restaurant, the Pub Burger is a fantastic addition to an already stacked menu.

The Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Chicken Sandwich was good as well. I got the crispy chicken sandwich, as getting grilled chicken anywhere is usually a gamble. If grilled chicken isn’t seasoned well, it can ruin the entire meal. Culver’s also has a spicy crispy chicken option for this sandwich. The sandwich was very good but it just didn’t feel “complete” so to speak. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it felt as if it was possibly missing a spice to take it over the top. Again, I went with the regular crispy chicken. The sandwich was still very good. However, it wasn’t an out-of-the-park home run as the Pub Burger was.

The Verdict: Is Culver’s Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar Pub Burger or Chicken Sandwich More Worth It?

If you are ordering a Smokehouse BBQ Cheddar sandwich, I believe Culver’s Pub Burger is more worth it. The prices of the two sandwiches are nearly identical. While the chicken is very good as well, there is just something about the combination of beef, onion rings and barbeque sauce that can’t be beaten. The Pub Burger truly does live up to its name and will likely become one of the hottest items on the Culver’s menu.
