Best Players to Wear Green Bay Packers Number 85
1) Max McGee, WR/P (1954, 1957-67)
NFL Draft: 1954, Round 5, Pick 51 to the Green Bay Packers
Max McGee was a massive part of Green Bay’s success under Vince Lombardi, and he wore the Packers’ number 85 for his entire career. McGee is probably best known for partying before Super Bowl I, then catching the first touchdown of the game with a hangover. Obviously, this means he scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl history, which is a massive accomplishment that can never be taken away from him.
In his 12-year career, Max McGee won five NFL Championships, two Super Bowls and was voted to a Pro Bowl. He caught 345 passes for 6,346 yards and 50 touchdowns while also punting for the Packers for half of his career.
2) Greg Jennings, WR (2006-12)
NFL Draft: 2006, Round 2, Pick 52 to the Green Bay Packers
Greg Jenning has done a number on his Green Bay legacy since leaving the city, but he was a fantastic player while wearing the Packers’ number 85 jersey. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion.
Jennings caught 425 passes for 6,537 yards and 52 touchdowns in seven seasons for the Packers. He then played two years for the Vikings and one for the Dolphins. Jennings ranks ninth in the Green Bay Packers’ all-time receiving yards, just behind Antonio Freeman.
3) Phil Epps, WR (1982-88)
NFL Draft: 1982, Round 12, Pick 321 to the Green Bay Packers
Drafted 321st in the 1982 NFL Draft, it’s fair to say Phil Epps exceeded expectations. He played his first seven years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers before playing one season with the New York Jets. Epps totaled 192 receptions for 2,884 yards and 14 touchdowns in Green Bay.
