The official ranking of these players is based on the Approximate Value (AV) from Pro Football Reference. The AV is based on performance and accolades during the time they wore this number in Green Bay.

Without further ado, here are the all-time best players to wear Green Bay Packers number 8.

1) Ryan Longwell, K (1997-2005)

NFL Draft: Undrafted in 1997

Kicker Ryan Longwell is the best player to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 8 jersey. After being cut from the 49ers at the start of the season, Longwell was scooped up by the Packers, and the rest is history.

Ryan Longwell played nine seasons for Green Bay, and he became the leading scorer in franchise history. This record was later broken by Mason Crosby, but he still ranks second overall. In nine seasons, Longwell converted 81.6% of his field goals and 98.9% of his PATs.

2) Tim Masthay, P (2010-15)

NFL Draft: Undrafted in 2009

After going undrafted, Tim Masthay spent a little time on the Colts’ roster before being cut prior to Week 1. He was picked up by Green Bay, where he would play his entire six-year career. Masthay averaged 44.2 yards per punt while downing inside the 20-yard line 33.8% of the time. He also won a Super Bowl with the Packers.

3) Max Zandejas, K (1987-88)

NFL Draft: 1986, Round 4, Pick 100 to the Dallas Cowboys

Despite getting drafted in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys, Max Zendejas was cut prior to the start of the season. He ended up playing one season in Washington, then two in Green Bay. Max Zendejas hit 71.4% of his field goal attempts and 88.2% of his PATs.

Who Wears Packers’ Number 8 in 2023?

Currently, rookie quarterback Sean Clifford wears the Green Bay Packers’ number 8 jersey. After an impressive preseason from the Penn State product, Clifford won the backup quarterback job. If all goes right, he won’t see the field much this season, but he did look capable if need be.
