Best Players to Wear Green Bay Packers Number 26

1) Herb Adderley, CB (1961-69)

NFL Draft: 1961, Round 1, Pick 12 to the Green Bay Packers

Coming in with huge expectations out of Michigan State as a halfback, Herb Adderley was converted to a defensive back for Vince Lombardi. Not only did Adderley meet expectations, he demolished them. Adderley would go on to achieve five All-NFL selections.

In nine seasons with Green Bay, Adderley recorded 39 interceptions. Not only did he record personal stats, but the Michigan State alum was also a major reason for five championships. The pinnacle of Adderley’s tenure in Green Bay was a 60-yard pick-six to put that dagger into the Cowboys during Super Bowl II.

Adderley would go down as not only the greatest player to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 26 jersey, but one of the best players in NFL history.

2) Chuck Cecil, S (1988-92)

NFL Draft: 1988, Round 4, Pick 89 to the Green Bay Packers

Drafted out of the University of Arizona, Chuck Cecil was known for his aggression and hard-hitting mentality. The pinnacle of Cecil’s tenure in Green Bay came in the 1992 season, as he recorded 102 tackles and four interceptions and was awarded a Pro Bowl selection.

“Scud” was a nickname that he picked up while wearing the Green Bay Packers’ number 26 jersey. He is consistently ranked as one of the hard-hitters in NFL history. Due to this, Cecil was eventually forced to retire due to multiple concussions.

3) Tim Lewis, CB (1983-86)

NFL Draft: 1983, Round 1, Pick 11 to the Green Bay Packers

Drafted out of the University of Pittsburgh, Tim Lewis was considered to be one of the better players on bad Packers teams in the 1980s. Lewis finished his Packers career with 16 total interceptions. He shared or led the team in interceptions in both 1983 and 1985.

Lewis still holds the record for the longest interception returned for a touchdown, at 99 yards. He did this against the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. While Lewis showed promise as a lock-down corner for Green Bay, his career was cut short after he sustained a neck injury against the Bears on Monday Night Football in 1986.
