It still didn’t look like classic Wisconsin football last week, but the Badgers overcame a slow start to beat Georgia Southern, 35-14. With the win, Wisconsin got themselves back above .500 prior to this weekend’s Wisconsin vs Purdue matchup.

For as shaky as the first three games of the season were, the games start to really matter now. With Big Ten play starting on the road, the Badgers will face their first conference test against Hudson Card and the Purdue Boilermakers.

Read on for our Wisconsin vs Purdue prediction, college football odds and Big Ten standings.

Wisconsin Football News | Wisconsin vs Purdue Prediction

If you just look at the final score, Wisconsin looked perfectly fine last week. They won by three possessions and held Georgia Southern to just 14 points. Unfortunately, anybody who watched the game knows how bad it looked for the first half and parts of the third quarter. The Badgers did rattle off 28 unanswered points to end the game, but many were questioning how the Badgers found themselves in a seven-point second-half hole.

The Wisconsin offense could do nothing until Braelon Allen was finally involved in the second half. While the defense did force six turnovers, the majority were thanks to poor decision-making by Georgia Southern. The Badgers have shown a trend of starting slow, and if they do the same against Purdue, they may not be able to turn it on late.

Purdue Football News | Wisconsin vs Purdue Prediction

Although Purdue comes into the game at just 1-2, there is a reason they are small underdogs in this game. Texas transfer Hudson Card leads the way at quarterback for Purdue and has completed over 65% of his passes for over 800 yards so far this season. The only true struggle with the Purdue offense is their lack of a running game, as they average just 3.4 yards per carry as a team.

Defensively, Purdue is touch and go. They surrendered 39 points at home to unranked Fresno State to open the season but did hold Virginia Tech to just 17 points and 286 yards in Blacksburg. The defense is led by freshman defensive back Dillon Thieneman who leads the team in tackles with 31, which is over double that of the next closest player. He also has two interceptions as well. Although Purdue isn’t the best at generating pressure, they do average over three sacks per game.
