Lambeau Field continues to be the crown jewel of the NFL. Home of the Green Bay Packers, Lambeau Field combines a rich history with a terrific, unique fan experience. It is so special the NFL has decided to bring the draft to Titletown, despite its smaller size meaning less total money than recent drafts.
While Lambeau Field still resembles the same stadium that Vince Lombardi once walked on, there have been many much-needed renovations throughout the years. Recently, futuristic pictures of potential Lambeau Field designs have gone viral amongst Packer Nation. Below, we will take a look at these cool designs. But first, let’s go over the Lambeau Field history of renovations and updates.
Lambeau Field History of Renovations
1957 — The stadium opens as City Stadium. It was the first stadium built specifically for an NFL team, and it had a capacity of 32,000.
1961 — City Stadium seat capacity increased to 38,000.
1963 — City Stadium seat capacity increased to 42,000.
1965 — City Stadium was renamed Lambeau Field, after the death of E.L. Lambeau. The Lambeau Field seat capacity was increased to 50,852.
1985 — 72 luxury suites were added, and the overall Lambeau Field seat capacity was increased to over 56,000.
1990 — 80 more luxury suites and 1,900 club seats were added.
1993 — The first video/scoreboard was added to the south end zone.
1995 — 90 more luxury suites were added to the stadium.
2000 — Green Bay Packers announce a major renovation to Lambeau Field instead of building a new stadium.
2001-03 — Major changes occur at Lambeau Field, including expanding the main concourse and adding an upper concourse, elevators, ramps, more restrooms and nearly 12,000 more seats for the dedicated Cheeseheads in Wisconsin. Titletown and the Packers Hall of Fame were added during these changes, as well as new updates to the locker rooms and offices at Lambeau.
2011-15 — By 2013, the Lambeau Field seating capacity was increased to over 80,000. The $145M expansion also included more levels to the stadium, a rooftop view platform and two new video/scoreboards. The final phase of this project was a new Packers Pro Shop, an updated Oneida Nation gate, new locations for Curly’s Pub and the Packers Hall of Fame, and upgrades to the atrium.

Futuristic Lambeau Field Designs
Clearly, there have been many changes to Lambeau Field over the years. With the terrific job Mark Murphy has done with the Green Bay Packers’ investments off of the field, money continues to roll in, so many large changes to Lambeau Field will be coming in the future.
While these designs may be a little extreme, it is possible the Green Bay Packers take a bit of inspiration from fan designs if there is enough interest and motivation.
