We are in the middle of the final day of the 2023 NFL Draft. For the most part, Green Bay Packers fans have been happy with the Packers draft class that GM Brian Gutekunst has put together. The team has reached for the majority of their picks, but they took it to another level in the fifth round with the Sean Clifford draft pick.

Green Bay Packers Draft Sean Clifford at 159

Sean Clifford is a quarterback out of Penn State that most people did not think would be selected in the NFL Draft at all, much less the fifth round. While Green Bay has glaring needs all over still, especially at the safety position, it was a bit surprising to see Gutekunst ignore the strong prospects on the board. Instead, he lit the pick on fire by drafting a backup quarterback.

Yes, a backup passer was needed. Many thought Green Bay should get an older backup to mentor Jordan Love. Well, they did indeed get a backup that’s older than Love. At 24 years old, Clifford enjoyed his five college seasons and was likely ready to try and make a USFL roster for a season before starting a new career.

Now, since Gute spent a fifth-round pick on him, Clifford is essentially guaranteed to be on the Packers’ roster this season. So, will we have a quarterback room of only Love and Clifford, or will the Packers carry three quarterbacks? Either way, it was a terrible draft pick, and everyone knows it.

Let’s take a look at the Packers fans’ reaction to the Sean Clifford draft pick.
