Madison is one of the party capitals of Wisconsin, thanks to a wide selection of bars that cater to every possible want and need. One of the more niche bars in the area is Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar. Located just west of W Gilman St at 558 State St, Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar is certainly one of a kind.
Madison Bar Review: Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar
Drink Selection (4.5/5 Stars)
With Luchador Madison being a tequila bar, it’s no surprise that they house more types of tequila than you can imagine. They house over 80 different types of tequila and plenty of vodka, rum and whiskey as well. With so many types of tequila and spirits available, Luchador offers plenty of house margaritas and cocktails for those who aren’t looking to only take shots.
While they have a very limited selection of beer, the amount of options they have in other spirits more than makes up for it.
Prices (3/5 Stars)
Luchador Madison is clearly a higher-end bar compared to others on State Street, and thus, they have higher prices to show for it as well. Single margarita prices typically range from $8-10 while mini pitchers will typically set you back $23-26. For those looking for a little more, full pitchers will run you around $44-48.
With such a wide variety of tequilas, the range for one-ounce or two-ounce pours varies greatly. For the most part, however, a single ounce will set you back about $6-9. Two-ounce pours usually only add an extra $2-3 on top of the one-ounce pour price.
As for beer prices, any of their beers on tap cost about $5 for a pint, $10 for a 32 oz mini pitcher, and $20 for a 60 oz pitcher. The majority of their canned and bottled beers cost between $4 and $5 dollars per drink.
Interior (4.5/5 Stars)
The best part about Luchador is the lack of wait time. While the majority of bars across town had quite the line, Luchador Madison had open seating available. The higher prices likely had plenty to do with this, as Luchador is a great spot for a nice drink. There was a decent amount of TVs showing a variety of sporting events along with some solid music. The bathrooms were in solid shape and it didn’t feel crowded at all.
The only knock on Luchador was that it didn’t have that homey “bar” feel. Outside of that, Luchador checked off all the boxes.
Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar (4/5 Stars)
Overall, Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar is a very underrated place. Not only do they have plenty of drink variety, but they also have a ton of tacos, burritos and appetizers to choose from. The atmosphere is pretty chill, the drinks are great, and it’s not packed with people constantly knocking into you.
The prices may be a little high, but you get what you pay for. With virtually no wait time and a clientele not consisting solely of frat guys and sorority girls, Luchador is great to hit up next time you find yourself in Madison, Wisconsin.
