It was “one and done” for the Green Bay Packers this postseason. Their season lost the same as it had begun, with injuries and a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. This time, the game was less than competitive, with seemingly zero answers on offense and, of course, some special teams mistakes sprinkled in. Fan-favorite (jokes) player Keisean Nixon had a spotlight on him, with his turnover leading to the Eagles’ only touchdown of the first half.

Despite the scoreboard only indicating a 12-point loss, this game was clearly dominated by Philadelphia. There also wasn’t a single mistake that led to the loss. Ultimately, it was a rare, decent Packers postseason defensive effort that was wasted, and now Nixon is deciding to parlay this into a bit of whining.

Packers Lose, Keisean Nixon Whines ‘It’s Over With’

The game started out as bad as it possibly could for the Green Bay Packers. On the opening kickoff of the game, All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon fumbled the ball, turning it over to the Eagles. As pointed out by many, including Nixon, this was a controversial call, as it appeared he had clearly recovered the fumble. Regardless, it was ruled a turnover that ultimately led to a Philadelphia score.

Nixon has been a criticized player by the Packers fanbase all season long for his performance on defense. His willingness to respond to fans has made the “feedback” a bit more aggressive towards him. With all of this in mind, it may be part of the reason why Nixon, the back-to-back All-Pro at kick returner, has said “it’s over with.”

All-Pro Returner Doesn’t Want to Return Kicks

The fumble to start the day has been a heavily criticized play from the game. Rightfully so, as it gave full momentum, and points, to the Eagles.

When asked about the fumbled kick return, the All-Pro returner responded by saying “I don’t really want to do it no more. There’s going to be talks with the coaching staff and stuff like that, but I think it’s over with for me.” Nixon continued by saying, “I want to be the CB1. CB1 is not doing kick returns. That’s just what it is.”

It was certainly a bold stance to say he did not want to be a kick returner anymore given that he was a two-time First Team All-Pro kicker returner. It’s also the reason why he was paid by the Packers. Of course, his response saying he should be the top cornerback is also very, very bold.

I can tell you how the conversations will go if Nixon says he doesn’t want to return kicks because he believes he’s a star cornerback. It will either result in some sort of psychiatric exam or, more likely, kicking his ass to the curb.

To be a true CB1, the cornerback must be long or have elite ball skills. In fact the elite cornerbacks have both. The 5-10 Nixon has neither. Admittedly, he is decent in the slot, even though he got beat by anyone considered good in the slot this season.

It feels like Keisean Nixon let his team down and the pressure of being a returner is too much for him. That’s fine, as it appears this is something that will not get out of his head going forward. However, if he thinks he’s a CB1, then it will not be in the NFL.
