While NFL Free Agency hasn’t officially begun, teams across the league are coming to terms with extensions to some key players. The same is true with the Green Bay Packers, who have made a couple of moves already. Without a doubt, the biggest was a Brandon McManus contract extension with the Packers.
Below, we will take a look at the Brandon McManus contract price and his value to the Green Bay Packers. While the Packers advertise an aggressive free agency every year (only to let us down), does this move indicate Green Bay is actually trying to bring a Lombardi back to Titletown?
Brandon McManus Contract Extension With Packers
Ever since the departure of Mason Crosby, the kicker position has been a major issue for the Green Bay Packers. Not only was the kicking position not winning games, but it was actively losing them. So, when the Packers finally decided to sign a proven veteran in the middle of last season, it was a rather large deal.
Brandon McManus proved his worth to the team. Now, the Packers reward him with a three-year, $15.3 million deal. This contract includes a $5 million signing bonus. At 33 years old, the end of McManus’ career is not in sight. If he continues to kick at a high level, he should be able to sign another valuable contract in three years.
In 11 games last season, McManus converted on 20-of-21 field goal attempts. This includes a 55-yard long and even back-to-back game-winning field goals. Extra points were the major issue with previous kicker Anders Carlson. However, McManus made all 30 of his attempts with Green Bay. For his career, Brandon McManus has converted on 82.2% of his field goal attempts.
The Packers have left too many points off of the board in previous seasons. With McManus, hopefully, that is a thing of the past.
Green Bay Packers Re-Sign Isaiah McDuffie
Yesterday, the Green Bay Packers made another signing as well. They came to terms with linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, signing up to a two-year, $8 million deal with incentives to bring the deal to $9.5 million.
McDuffie has had his ups and downs. However, he has been a solid special teams player and has filled in adequately on the defensive side of the ball. He is a depth piece the Packers felt was worth bringing back.
