Best Players to Wear Green Bay Packers Number 44

1) Donny Anderson, RB (1966-71)

NFL Draft: 1965, Round 1, Pick 7 to the Green Bay Packers

Donny Anderson is clearly the best player ever to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 44 jersey. He played six seasons for Green Bay, starting 54 games. He totaled 3,165 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground, then another 1,725 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver. Anderson also returned a punt for a touchdown.

He won two NFL Championships, two Super Bowls and was voted to the Pro Bowl. In Super Bowl I, Anderson’s knee knocked out Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, who was very boastful prior to the game.

2) James Starks, RB (2010-16)

NFL Draft: 2010, Round 6, Pick 193 to the Green Bay Packers

All seven of James Starks’ NFL seasons were spent in Green Bay. While he was a backup for most of his career, he started all four of the Packers’ playoff games during their most recent Super Bowl run. In total, Starks started 13 regular season games, running for 2,506 yards and nine touchdowns. He added another 1,017 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver.

3) Jerry Holmes, CB (1990-91)

NFL Draft: Undrafted in 1980

Despite going undrafted in 1980, Jerry Holmes had a successful 10-year NFL career. The final two seasons were spent in Green Bay where he started 28 games. Holmes totaled four interceptions and one sack with the Packers.

Who Wears Packers’ Number 44 in 2023?

Currently, Henry Pearson wears the Green Bay Packers’ number 44 jersey. The undrafted rookie is the only fullback on the Packers roster, currently. There is a strong chance Green Bay doesn’t keep a full-time fullback on the final roster, so Pearson has some work to do in order to win a roster spot.
