Because of the organization’s philosophy, receiving compensatory draft picks has become a consistent, expected thing for the Green Bay Packers. Compensatory picks in the 2023 NFL Draft will be rewarded to teams that lost unrestricted free agents last offseason. So, Green Bay won’t be given picks from trading away Davante Adams, but they will receive compensation for losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Soon, the 2023 Green Bay Packers compensatory picks will be announced.
The Packers organization has many rules Ted Thompson made that they continue to follow that are related to players’ contracts, re-signing certain positions past a specific age, etc. The philosophy centers around moving on from a player a year too early than a year too late. As a result, players go elsewhere and perform well, which means Green Bay Packers compensatory picks are given for the following NFL Draft.
Yes, this means Green Bay often treads water instead of trying to swim forward. With no owner to make decisions/fire mediocrity, this is what you get, but I digress.
The 2023 Green Bay Packers’ compensatory draft picks should officially be announced soon. Below, we will project what they will be.

Projected 2023 Green Bay Packers Compensatory Picks
The expectation is that the Green Bay Packers receive three compensatory draft picks this year, compensating for the losses of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chandon Sullivan and Oren Burks.
The highest draft pick will come from Valdes-Scantling, who totaled 687 yards and two touchdowns on a Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs team. For MVS, the Packers are expected to receive a fifth-round pick.
As for Sullivan and Burks, both players had roles on the Vikings and 49ers, respectively. The Packers lost Lucas Patrick, who qualifies for a sixth-round draft pick. However, the signing of Jarran Reed is expected to cancel it out.
In total, the Green Bay Packers will receive three compensatory draft picks. This raises the Packers’ pick total to 11 in the 2023 NFL Draft, though the large majority of picks will be on the final day. However, the surplus of seventh-round picks should help Green Bay pull off some draft-day trades.
