The Green Bay Packers‘ bye week came at the right time, helping to get many of their key players healthier. In fact, nearly the entire team is healthier, practicing, and expected to play. Jordan Love reportedly looks and feels the healthiest he has since the first week. However, the same cannot be said of rookie Jordan Morgan.
The Packers’ first-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft will not only miss the Week 11 matchup with the Chicago Bears, but Green Bay has made the decision to place Morgan on the injured reserve list (IR).
Green Bay Packers Put Jordan Morgan on IR
The Green Bay Packers love to do two things in the NFL Draft — take first-round picks who are developmental pieces instead of ready-to-play, and draft offensive linemen who play multiple positions instead of specializing at one. Jordan Morgan fit the bill perfectly. This is why they took the rookie out of Arizona with the 25th pick in the draft.
Unfortunately, it has been an up-and-down season for the rookie, with much of the adversity being due to injuries. After making his first NFL start in Week 9, due to other injuries on the Packer offensive line, Morgan will be put back on the shelf. Head coach Matt LaFleur called the Morgan injury “unfortunate.”
Jordan Morgan reaggravated a shoulder injury that caused him issues earlier in the season. So far, the rookie has been able to play in only six games this season. Week 9 was his first and only game starting and playing the full game. Being put on IR means the rookie will miss at least the next four games. So, the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on December 15th is the soonest he can return.
While any injury is not great to see, losing Morgan is not the end of the world for the Packers, especially since this week they play the Chicago Bears, which is nearly a minor-league team. He has been rotating at right guard with Sean Rhyan. So, Rhyan is expected to be the full-time player at guard now, and the Packers lose a depth piece who has the flexibility to play at either guard or tackle.
Hopefully, Green Bay can get and stay healthy upfront, as it will be vital for the second half of this season. Along with Morgan, fellow rookie MarShawn Lloyd has been ruled out for Week 11 as well.
