The 2023 Green Bay Packers draft class is in the books! After 13 draft picks, Brian Gutekunst’s performance was met with mixed reviews. Only some of the needs entering the draft were truly met, and this roster still has a long way to go in order to be competitive for this season. But now, we can see some Green Bay Packers undrafted free agents get signed.
Every year, rookies who were undrafted free agents (UDFAs) break out. These players may have been passed over because they went to a small school. Maybe they had a medical issue that scared teams off. Notable Green Bay Packers Undrafted Free Agents
You may feel like Packers UDFAs aren’t a big deal. For the majority, you’re probably right. However, sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.
Allen Lazard entered last season as the Packers’ top wide receiver. He grew into a solid contributor for the Packers, being a solid blocker while also making downfield plays. Lazard was an undrafted free agent in 2018.
Robert Tonyan went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. After spending a little bit of time with the Detroit Lions, the Packers signed Tonyan, developed him, and made many big plays for Green Bay.
Yosh Nijman stepped up and played well as the starter at left tackle for the Packers in 2021, after being an undrafted free agent in 2019.
Sam Shields was a Packers undrafted free agent in 2010. He ended up making some starts at cornerback during the Packers’ Super Bowl run. He totaled 18 interceptions in seven years with Green Bay.
John Kuhn went undrafted in the 2005 NFL Draft, spending some time with the Steelers. He later came to Green Bay and became a fan favorite at fullback.
