The Milwaukee Brewers have often been a team behind the eight ball when it comes to social media trends. That all changed when the Brewers decided to hop on the trend of hidden cameras to film prospects finding out they have cracked the opening day roster. The most notable player to be a part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ “hidden camera trick” was fifth-ranked prospect Brice Turang.
Brewers Spring Training Standout
There was little secret that Turang’s time was coming this year. The only question was whether it would be at the start, or in the middle of the year. Brice Turang was drafted by the Brewers in 2018 and has been playing in many meaningful spring training games since 2019. He’s currently the Brewers’ fifth-ranked prospect.
One of the best parts of Turang’s game is his ability to play great defense at a variety of positions. Turang can play shortstop, second base, and outfield positions. With the trade of Kolten Wong to the Seattle Mariners this offseason, the writing seemed to be on the wall that he would have a shot to fill Wong’s position in 2023.
While his bat may need some time to adjust to the big leagues, he could find himself in a similar role to past Milwaukee utility players like Hernan Perez. The Brewers pride themselves on defense so as long as that stays at a solid level, he should be here to stay.
Brice Turang: Future Star?
While it is often seen that players need some time to adjust to the big leagues, Turang may not be like others that have come before him. Not only has he played in Brewers’ spring training for multiple years, but he also had some great batting lines in Triple-A.
Last season, Brice Turang slashed a .286/.360/.412 line in over 130 games with Nashville. He also added career highs in home runs (13) and stolen bases (34). With most of the Brewers’ issues coming from the lack of ability to get on base, Turang’s lack of power shouldn’t matter too much.
Baseball is a long season. For most, it’s way too long. With that being said, Turang being a part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ opening-day roster will not only fill him with confidence, but it will also give him ample chances to get up to speed and contribute to Milwaukee’s hunt for the postseason. Even with so much changing this offseason, Turang gives Brewers fans plenty to look forward to this season.
