Our list of the best players to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 14 is a unique one. For the other articles, we have listed the top players, according to AV by Pro Football Reference. However, there are no players with AV for 14. However, there are still legends to wear the number, so we will order them ourselves.
1) Don Hutson, LE (1935-45)
Don Hutson is the best player to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 14 jersey, and one could argue that he is one of the most accomplished players in franchise history. The Alabama Antelope was dominant during his 11 seasons with Green Bay, and his dominance was honored by his being enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Hutson totaled 488 receptions for 7,991 yards and 99 touchdowns. He also converted on 94% of his PAT attempts (172/183). On defense, Huston grabbed 30 interceptions and totaled another touchdown.
Don Hutson owns the NFL record for most seasons leading the league in points scored (5) and most seasons leading the league in touchdowns (8). On top of all of this, he was also a three-time NFL Champion, two-time MVP, eight-time All-Pro and four-time All-Star (yes, All-Star). He was one impressive human.
2) Curly Lambeau, RB (1927)
Of course, there are many incredible things to say about the legend Curly Lambeau. However, for this article specifically, we are discussing what he did on the field while sporting the number 14, which was one lone season. All we know is that he scored two touchdowns in this season.
Obviously, Curly Lambeau is one of the names that is brought up when discussing the history of football, whether the discussion is about the Green Bay Packers or the NFL as a whole. He is a legend, and that’s good enough for second on this list.
3) Moose Gardner, G (1922-26)
Moose Gardner is only one of two remaining players to wear the Green Bay Packers’ number 14 jersey for more than one season. He was also the first player to wear the number.
Originally from Ashland, Wisconsin, Gardner would play college football for the Wisconsin Badgers. Following a couple of other pro teams, Gardner played five seasons at right guard for the Green Bay Packers, and he even scored a touchdown.
