Although the 2024 MLB season didn’t end the way Milwaukee Brewers fans had hoped, it was still a heck of a ride. After trading away ace Corbin Burnes, missing star pitcher Brandon Woodruff for the season, and two-time reliever of the year Devin Williams for half of the season, the Brewers fought their way to a 93-69 record. The Brewers won the NL Central by 10 games and blasted their projected win total out of the water. While plenty of their success was thanks to the play of young stars like Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell and others, much of that success is thanks to the 2024 NL Manager of the Year Pat Murphy.
While the Brewers’ season ended in a heartbreaking fashion via a Pete Alonso go-ahead homer in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the NL Wild Card, the success of the Brewers was undeniable. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America also saw the incredible job that was done by manager Pat Murphy. As such, they awarded him the 2024 NL Manager of the Year award in his first season as a manager at the major league level.
Brewers’ Pat Murphy Accepts 2024 NL Manager of the Year
Last night, the Baseball Writer’s Association of America held their awards ceremony where manager Pat Murphy accepted his 2024 NL Manager of the Year award. His acceptance speech wasn’t very long, but in true Pat Murphy fashion, he pointed out the hard work and success of many around him before pointing the finger at himself.
Murphy made sure to thank his family and the players. He also placed some well-timed jokes there. For all Milwaukee Brewers fans and baseball fans, it’s worth a listen. It certainly appears that Pat Murphy is not only the guy for the job in Milwaukee, but he is also a great guy overall who the Milwaukee Brewers franchise is lucky to have.
While he and the Brewers organization deserve to celebrate this accomplishment, the celebration won’t last long. Spring Training begins on February 13th.
