Announced on April Fool’s Day, everyone thought the Kwik Trip social media team put out another banger, joking about a ridiculous chip flavor. Little did we know, they were serious about these chips that taste like bangers!
Yes, the type of bangers those weirdos across the pond eat. In the US of A, we call these hot dogs, and these new chips from Kwik Trip are the flavor of a Gas Station Roller Dog!
You know we here at Let’s Go Wisconsin had to try these. So, let’s jump into the food review of the new Kwik Trip hot dog chips! Most importantly, do they actually taste like those delicious dogs that are rolled to perfection?
Kwik Trip Food Review: NEW Hot Dog Chips
We have seen chip companies get quirky in the past and release various cheeseburger-flavored chips, but going for hot dog is a bit more unique. With the cheeseburger chips, the flavors of ketchup, mustard and pickles are also added to give the full experience. Is that the same with the new Kwik Trip hot dog chips?
Nope. While the image on the bag does showcase a glizzy that has been dressed with ketchup and mustard, these chips are going for the naked dog itself. These are also ripple chips, so it has those grooves (for a better grip?).
Okay, so they are going for literally just a hot dog flavor. How do they taste? Meh. The marketing is great, and the flavor could have been so weird that it’s good. Instead, they went for something safe that wouldn’t piss anyone off. And guess what? I’m pissed off!
The chips taste savory and a little smoky. Essentially, if you took the smokiness from their All Dressed chips and took away everything else, you would be left with these hot dog chips. I feel like I’m pretty transparent with this food review, but we do always have to ask, what’s the final verdict?
The Verdict: Are the Kwik Trip Hot Dog Chips Good?
I’d rank this new Kwik Trip food item a 2.5/5.
These chips are not bad. Unfortunately, these chips are just… nothing. They don’t move the needle in either direction. What saves their ranking for me is that they could be a solid chip to accompany a dip. These with a little Top the Tater? Ooh mamma!
If you are a fan of BBQ chips, you will think these are a dialed-down version of that, but that’s about it. Want to try them for yourself? You can get a bag for just $2.79 right now, and you’d get a deal if you get a second bag of Urge chips!
