The Green Bay Packers are one of the most storied franchises in all professional sports, much less the NFL. Coming into this football season, the Packers have had 28 individuals inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now, following the 2025 NFL Honors during Super Bowl week, another Packers legend will be inducted into the Hall of Fame — Sterling Sharpe.
Sterling Sharpe is FINALLY Inducted to Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 is the smallest class in 20 years. There were three modern players and one senior finalist. The year’s senior finalist who was inducted was none other than Green Bay Packers legend Sterling Sharpe.
It was a long time coming for Sterling Sharpe (too long). While he played just seven NFL seasons, Sharpe was an incredible Packer. Of course, his career was cut short by a neck injury. However, even in a career cut short by injury, you can compare Sharpe’s accomplishments with anyone. He was far ahead of his time, setting records and dominating on the field.
Prior to the neck injury that ultimately ended his NFL career, Sterling Sharpe never missed a game. They say the best ability is availability. In the case of Sharpe, it was one of his many abilities.
A Few of Sterling Sharpe’s NFL Accomplishments
- Sharpe never missed a game, playing 112 regular-season and two postseason games
- His two playoff games resulted in 11 catches for 229 yards and four touchdowns
- In 1992, Sharpe set the single-season reception record (108)
- Sharpe became the first NFL player to record consecutive 100-catch seasons
- He led the NFL in receptions three times: 1989 (90), 1992 (108), and 1993 (112)
- Sharpe recorded the receiving triple crown in 1992, leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns
- He recorded 70+ receiving yards in 62.5% of his games and 100+ yards in over a quarter of his games
- In seven seasons, Sterling Sharpe was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro
Now, Sharpe will be the 29th Green Bay Packer in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He also joins his younger brother, Sterling Sharpe.
2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class
Strangely, this was the smallest class we have seen in 20 years, with only four players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Along with Sterling Sharpe, the three modern players to be enshrined in Canton are tight end Antonio Gates, edge rusher Jared Allen and cornerback Eric Allen.
There are 50 voters for the Hall of Fame. They considered one coach — Mike Holmgren — who was a Super Bowl-winning coach with the Green Bay Packers. To be inducted, the individual must receive 80 percent of the votes in support.
Players who failed to get enough votes included quarterback Eli Manning, linebacker Luke Kuechly, receiver Steve Smith, receiver Reggie Wayne, receiver Torry Holt edge rusher Terrell Suggs, guard Marshal Yanda guard Jahri Evans tackle Willie Anderson safety Darren Woodson kick Adam Vinatieri running back Fred Taylor. Vinatieri in particular stands out, as he is the all-time leader in points scored. Clearly, you cannot tell the story of the NFL without the league’s greatest kicker. Of course, Yanda is also arguably the best offensive guard as well.
While the voting for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class should be criticized, the Green Bay Packers nation should celebrate Sterling Sharpe this offseason.
